Kaieteur Falls
Kaieteur Falls is a giant waterfall deep in the rainforest where a wide river plunges off a tall cliff in one huge drop. It is one of the most powerful single-drop waterfalls in the whole world.
People love Kaieteur because the water falls almost five times higher than Niagara Falls, sending up a giant cloud of mist. It is the proud symbol of Guyana and feels like a hidden treasure that only the jungle protects.
One Giant Drop
The water tumbles about 226 meters straight down, which is one of the tallest single drops on Earth. Standing near the edge, you can feel the ground rumble and see rainbows dancing in the mist.
Tiny Golden Frogs
Special little golden frogs live in the giant tank plants that grow right beside the falls, and they spend their whole lives there. Colorful birds called Cock-of-the-Rock also flash bright orange in the nearby forest.
Getting There
Most visitors fly in on a small plane because there are no roads through the thick jungle. The short flight over endless green treetops and winding rivers is an adventure all by itself.
