Tikal

Tikal

Tikal is a giant ancient Maya city hidden deep in the rainforest of northern Guatemala. Tall stone temples rise above the treetops where monkeys and colorful birds live.

Tikal is famous because its temples are over a thousand years old and were built by the clever Maya people. Visitors love climbing to the top to see the jungle stretch out in every direction.

History

The Maya built Tikal as a powerful city with palaces, plazas, and pyramids where kings once ruled. Today we can still walk the same paths they used long ago.
