Monterrico Beach

Monterrico Beach

Monterrico is a warm beach on the Pacific coast with soft black volcanic sand. Gentle waves roll in and mangrove channels wind through the nearby wetlands.

It is famous for its dark sparkling sand and for being a home to baby sea turtles. Families love watching tiny turtles make their first trip to the ocean.

Sea Turtles

A nature center helps baby sea turtles hatch safely and reach the water. Visitors sometimes get to gently cheer the little turtles on their way.

Mangroves

Quiet boat rides glide through green mangrove tunnels full of birds. You might spot herons, iguanas, and crabs hiding among the roots.
