El Boqueron National Park
El Boqueron National Park sits at the top of the San Salvador Volcano, right above the country's capital city. Its centerpiece is a giant crater over a kilometer wide with a tiny younger cone at the bottom.
People love the easy walking paths, cool mountain air, and the jaw-dropping view down into the enormous crater. Because it is close to the capital, it is a favorite quick escape into nature for families.
The Giant Crater
A safe railed path circles part of the crater rim, letting you gaze down hundreds of meters into the green bowl. At the very bottom sits a small cone nicknamed 'Boqueroncito,' or 'little Boqueron.'
Plants and Air
Gardens along the trail are full of hydrangeas, ferns, and colorful flowers that love the cool, misty climate. The fresh, crisp mountain air makes it a refreshing change from the warm city below.
Easy for Everyone
The main viewpoint is a short, gentle walk from the parking area, so even little kids can reach it easily. Small cafes and shops nearby serve hot chocolate and snacks perfect for the cooler weather.
