Samana Peninsula
The Samana Peninsula is a lush green finger of land reaching into the ocean in the northeast, full of palm groves and hidden beaches. Each winter thousands of humpback whales gather in its warm bay to have their babies.
It is famous for whale watching and for El Limon, a tall jungle waterfall you reach by trail or on horseback. People love its laid-back villages, coconut coves, and gentle island pace.
Whales
From January to March, giant humpback whales leap and splash in the bay, and boats take families out to watch them safely. Hearing a whale sing and seeing its huge tail is unforgettable.
El Limon Waterfall
A leafy trail, often ridden on friendly horses, leads to a 130-foot waterfall pouring into a cool swimming pool. Splashing under the falling water is a favorite way to cool off.
Beaches
Quiet beaches like Playa Rincon are framed by green hills and shady coconut palms. The water is calm and clear, perfect for floating and looking for little shells.
