Lake Enriquillo
Lake Enriquillo is the largest lake in the Caribbean and the lowest point in the whole region, sitting below sea level in the southwest. Its salty blue water is home to wild crocodiles and thousands of pink flamingos.
It is famous for its rare wildlife and for Cabritos Island, a special reserve in the middle of the lake. Nature lovers treasure the chance to see crocodiles, iguanas, and flamingos in one wild place.
Wildlife
The lake shelters American crocodiles that bask on the shore and big friendly-looking rhinoceros iguanas. Flocks of bright pink flamingos wade in the shallows looking for food.
Weather
This is one of the hottest, driest corners of the country, ringed by cactus and dusty hills. Early morning is the best cool time to visit and spot animals.
Scenery
The wide silvery-blue water stretches out beneath rugged brown mountains, a striking mix of desert and lake. Because the lake sits below sea level, standing here means you are at the lowest spot in the Caribbean.
