Saona Island

Saona Island

Saona Island (Isla Saona) is a peaceful tropical island protected inside Cotubanama National Park in the southeast. It has no big roads or crowds, just palm-lined beaches, warm shallow water, and starfish resting in the sand below.

It is famous as a postcard-perfect paradise reached by fun boat rides across bright blue water. Visitors love the natural pools where you can stand waist-deep far from shore and spot gentle starfish.

Wildlife

The clear water is home to bright orange starfish, tiny fish, and sometimes sea turtles gliding by. Colorful birds nest among the palm trees on the shore.

Getting There

Most families reach the island by speedboat or by a big sailing catamaran with music and dancing. The ride across the sparkling sea is half the adventure.

Scenery

Rows of leaning coconut palms line beaches of soft white sand that seem to stretch forever. The water shifts from pale mint near the shore to deep blue farther out.
