Guatape and El Penol Rock
Guatape is a cheerful lakeside town where every house is painted with bright colors and playful pictures along the bottom walls. Next to it rises El Penol, a giant rock with a long stairway to the top.
People love Guatape for its rainbow streets and for climbing the 700 steps up the great rock. From the top you see a maze of blue lakes and green islands spread out below.
The great rock
El Penol is a huge stone that rises straight up from the ground with a zigzag staircase built onto its side. Climbing all the steps is a fun challenge that ends with an amazing view.
Colorful houses
Every building in town wears bright paint with little pictures called zocalos showing animals, flowers, and daily life. Walking the streets feels like strolling through a giant coloring book.
Lake fun
The big blue lake around town is perfect for boat rides, splashing, and spotting little green islands. Families enjoy ice cream by the water after a day of exploring.
