Valparaiso

Valparaiso

Valparaiso is a colorful port city built on steep hills that tumble down to the Pacific Ocean. Its houses are painted in every bright color you can imagine, and old cable cars carry people up and down the slopes.

The city is famous for its dazzling street art and murals that cover almost every wall. Wandering its winding lanes feels like walking through a giant open-air rainbow.

Painted Houses and Murals

Almost every house and wall is splashed with bright colors and playful pictures. Artists from around the world come here to paint huge murals of animals, faces, and dreams.

Old Hillside Elevators

Because the city is so hilly, it uses funny old wooden cable cars called funiculars to carry people uphill. Riding one gives you a wonderful view over the rooftops and the sea.

Mild Seaside Weather

The ocean keeps the city cool and pleasant, rarely too hot or too cold. Sea gulls glide over the busy harbor while big ships come and go all day.
