Marble Caves (Capillas de Marmol)
The Marble Caves are swirling caverns of smooth marble stone sitting right on the edge of a bright blue lake in Patagonia. Over thousands of years, the waves slowly carved the rock into curvy tunnels and arches.
People travel far to glide by boat through these glowing blue-and-white caves, some of the prettiest in the world. The marble walls sparkle and reflect the turquoise water like a natural cathedral.
Swirling Marble Walls
The caves are made of smooth marble with wavy stripes of gray, white, and pink. Running your hand along the cool stone feels like touching a giant swirl of frozen ice cream.
The Bright Blue Lake
The caves sit on General Carrera Lake, whose water is an amazing bright turquoise. The color comes from tiny bits of glacier stone floating in the water.
Boat Rides Inside
Small boats and kayaks can float right inside the caves when the lake is calm. On sunny days the blue water reflects up onto the ceiling and makes the whole cave shimmer.
