Ouro Preto

Ouro Preto

Ouro Preto is a beautiful old town in the hills of Minas Gerais, filled with colorful colonial houses and golden churches. Its name means Black Gold because it was once a rich gold-mining town.

It is a treasured historic place where the streets, art, and buildings look almost the same as they did 300 years ago. Visitors love wandering its cobblestone lanes and visiting its ornate old churches.

The Gold Rush Story

Long ago people found lots of gold in these hills, and the town grew rich very fast. You can still visit old mine tunnels dug into the ground to see how the gold was found.
