Christ the Redeemer
Christ the Redeemer is a giant statue of Jesus standing on top of Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro. With open arms, it looks out over the whole city, the beaches, and the blue sea.
It is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and the most famous symbol of Brazil. Millions of people ride a little train up the mountain to stand under the huge statue and enjoy the amazing view.
How Big It Is
The statue is about 30 meters tall and its open arms stretch 28 meters wide, as long as an airplane. It sits on a tall mountain, so it seems to float above the clouds.
The View From the Top
From the base you can see Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana Beach, and the huge green forest around the city. On a clear day the whole of Rio looks like a toy town below you.
Getting There
A cog train climbs slowly up the mountain through the Tijuca rainforest, where you might spot little monkeys and colorful birds. The ride is part of the fun for kids and grown-ups.
