Altun Ha
Altun Ha is an ancient Maya city with stone temples set among green lawns, close to Belize City. It was once a busy trading town where people exchanged goods like jade and shells.
It is famous for a huge carved jade head found here, one of the largest jade objects from the Maya world. Visitors love climbing the main temple and imagining life here long ago.

A large green jade head shaped like a Maya sun god was discovered at Altun Ha. It is so special that it appears on Belizean money.
