Perito Moreno Glacier
The Perito Moreno Glacier is a colossal river of blue ice in Los Glaciares National Park in Patagonia. It stands as tall as a 20-story building and stretches for miles across the mountains.
Visitors love watching enormous chunks of ice break off and crash into the lake with a boom like thunder. It is one of the few glaciers in the world that is still growing.
Ice Colors
The glacier glows in bright shades of white and deep electric blue. The blue color appears because the thick ice soaks up all the other colors of light and reflects only blue.
Walkways
Wooden balconies zig-zag along the hillside so you can face the glacier from many angles. If you are lucky and patient, you might see a giant ice tower topple over.
Ice Trekking
Older kids and grown-ups can strap spikes onto their boots and walk right on top of the glacier with a guide. You hike past deep blue cracks and tiny frozen streams.
