Maldonado is a coastal city in the southeast, right next to the world-famous beach resort of Punta del Este. It buzzes with visitors in summer who come for the sunny shores.
You can see the giant sculpture of a hand rising from the sand at nearby Punta del Este, swim at beautiful beaches, and watch boats in the harbor. The old town square is calm and pretty.
