Camaguey

About 300 thousand people.

Camaguey

Camaguey is a city in central Cuba famous for its maze of twisting streets, built long ago to confuse pirates. It is one of the oldest towns in the country.

You can hunt for the big clay pots called tinajones, visit pretty churches, and get happily lost in the winding lanes.

Twisting streets

Unlike most cities, Camaguey has crooked, curvy streets that turn every which way. Long ago this made it hard for pirates to find their way.

Clay pots

The city is known for giant clay pots called tinajones that once caught rainwater. You can spot them in gardens and patios all over town.
